“When kids get behind the DJ decks, you can instantly see their faces light up. No other instrument gives you control of a dance floor and moves a crowd the same way a conductor leads an orchestra. Students can ‘touch’ music and feel it at their fingertips by manipulating its sound and speed.
When I was a kid, I always looked for something that allowed me to express myself. I took piano lessons for three years, but I felt that something was still missing. As beautiful and amazing it was to play on the keys, I still didn’t find that special connection with music. I couldn’t sing. I couldn’t read sheet music. But ever since I could remember, I always desired and dreamed about performing for a crowd. I wanted to create something of my own.
As a freshman in high school, I started to learn how to DJ. By sophomore year I was producing my own songs and remixing. The first remix I made was from my mom’s Journey CD and then added my own drums to their hit song “Faithfully”.
I’d finally felt the satisfaction of being true to myself and expressing my feelings through music. I’d found my way to being an artist with my own blank canvas. DJing has taken off since then and is becoming more popular every day. Classical lessons can be wonderful for some students, but today many kids want to experience something new.
DJing allows students to create their own music mixes live, and be the life of the party. For kids who like to compose, music production is perfect for creating and managing songs and your fingertips."
